Hard to believe it's Dec 1. Came home from Church and DS opened his Lindt Advent calendar...Day 1.
Yesterday I spent the day at Boy Scouts for our Tree sale. Anyone looking for a beautiful tree? We get only premium trees so they all look good. It was mighty cold. Never got over 30 degrees. Despite all the long underwear etc I was still freezing. Made the boys grilled cheese and soup on the camp stove, nothing like roughing it... 14 people at a cost of $34. including cookies for dessert! and hot chocolate for drinks!  Anyway, I am old and tired so we have another family in charge today but I still have to make some new signs and drop them off.
ANyone do Christmas shopping yet? I went to the Christmas Tree Shoppe after work on Friday (worst work day EVER) and they were out of that darn popcorn machine that DH wanted. Really? SO I left my full cart with the manager when she said nastily, I might add, that they sold out of the 5 they had by 9am.
FOr Thanksgiving I made Peanut Butter pie in the individual mason jars. IT was delicious....
I need coffee, breakfast (I refuse to cook this morning) and a nap already....

Good luck with the sales, Pat, and stay warm.

Angela, my shopping is mostly done, too.

I was thinking that after Thanksgiving most of the deadlines would be done until Christmas - what was I thinking! I've got 3 or 4 nights out this week and 3 the following week.

Hello, y'all! Been a bit out of it... Just because.

Congrats on your shopping, most of you. I have done very little. I have something for my mom, which I purchased last march, I think. One other item, which I'm not talking about, is in my room. The rest... Well, I'd best get moving, now that Thanksgiving is over.

I have deadlines on swaps and items I'm hand making. Need to get to the post tomorrow.

Mom has decided that her back is bad enough that she is canceling the Christmas party at her house, and mailing gifts to the grandkids and great grandkids this year. We are still going over to put up and decorate her tree... Just a few of us local snots.

It was lovely to have Cassie in for Thanksgiving, and an extra day after. I have to say my house is cleaner than it was before the day, and I thought we hadn't done a bad job! Thanks, Cassie! I'm glad we got a chance to simply sit, chat, and craft.

Tobey, I was looking through the catalog online, and there are a few things that would be cool, especially with the sale... Am I too late?

A friend dropped off a CTMH catalog, and I missed her deadline... Thanksgiving Day. O.o

Aw, well, best get to more! I need to bug the guys to dig out the tree (can't have a real one here), and pop up some Christmas decos. Hope everyone had a lovely week and a fun weekend.

Head is spinning. Got to the post before they closed for their 2-ish hour lunch hour, wasted some time in a junk/antique shop, picked up Dennis from school, and am now trying to eat my lunch in peace and finish the recipe swap. Not happening. I tank it's time for a tea break and some time for the child to play with daddy, instead of grandma.

If I didn't have deadlines...

I hope everyone (Pam, Wendi, and Crissa) loves their Christmas tags! Awesome job ladies! CR is again picking out 'his'. What would I do without that boy?

Off to work I go! Ho Ho Ho! (Work...hah!)

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day with friends and family!  I love getting to see everyone during the holiday season, but I'm getting to the (old) age when I'm wishing that it didn't all hit at once.  After it's over, I feel like I rushed through it driving here and driving there.  Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to be included; but, then the rest of year seems to be void of much contact.

I've been busy making double door swags (2) and wreaths (2) and favor bags and tags (50) for my niece--helping her prepare for her family's big annual Christmas party which is this Saturday.  This week is already feeling rushed!  I just got the request for the wreaths and the tags yesterday!  Do I need to say I'm looking for an extremely simple/easy-to-mass-produce tag.  She's doing a candy bar and everyone can fill a little jar--thus the little tags!  I'm thinking of a scalloped top tag, gold inking around edges, stamped with a sentiment, tied with a thin gold ribbon.  No, to the embossing!!

I'm not even putting up a tree this year.  DS is overseas and DH may have an assignment in Michigan right up to Christmas Eve and then resuming right afterward.  If so, he'll stay over with his daughter who lives there.  My Christmas plan was to be in Vietnam, but doesn't look like that is going to happen.  They apparently don't celebrate it much, if at all.  their big holiday is Tet in January.

I spent Thanksgiving with my step-dad and his family in Elgin (2 hr drive).  We've kept in touch after my mom died and it's been good to have that left.  Then Friday I drove to Georgetown (45 min drive) to meet a girl friend for the town square lighting, stroll/shopping in quaint little shops, and dinner at a delightful little bistro that had live music.  It was very pleasant.  Then Saturday I drove to Cedar Park (1 hr) to meet DN at Archivers'.  Did a couple of layouts and helped her address her 150 Christmas cards!  Ladies from the church were going to Cedar Park for a day of scrapbook shopping and lunch on Monday and I just was too tired to even think about it!

BSF (the Bible study I do) meets on Wednesday in Killeen.  There are daily lessons that require somewhere between 20-40 minutes to complete.  Here I am on Tuesday--not having started them!

Guess I should get to doing something!  When I'm overwhelmed and without a plan, I tend to flounder about!

Pat, I loved the idea of cooking over a campstove for Boy Scouts!  How apropos!  Just reading it sounded FUN!

Di, good luck finishing up on your recipe swaps whilst entertaining a toddler!

Tobey, time to head over to your website and check out what a Muse is all about!

Angela and Anne--WOW!  I'm impressed that your shopping is complete and you are to the wrapping stage!  During the busy stage of life, with a little one, I always made stuff and did all my shopping before Thanksgiving Day!

P.S.  Anne, that was an interesting article re: Advent!

Cass, sorry I didn't get your kit mailed any sooner!  It's on it's way!

Chris, PM your address to me if you want a prize from the Fall Cyber Crop. ;) And I think you will love A Muse!

Not quite all of my shopping is done - still a few things to pick up for my boys (men), and some stocking stuffers.

So am I making cards, wrapping presents, baking cookies? No. I am in the midst of yet another studio reorganization (you guys must get tired of hearing that). My studio is really too small (no, it can't be because I have too much stuff). Ten years of collecting, and my hobby has extended to mixed media arts so that doesn't help! I donate to the library regularly. This time it's all because of that cabinet I bought at the church sale ...

Chris, I love hearing about all your running around in Texas. It makes me rather nostalgic for places! But... But... But... Not even a little tree, maybe even prelit, just to enjoy yourself? Or one of those fern like ones from Lowes? They're so cute, and just a touch of happy! I'm sad to hear your Vietnam Christmas fell through!  I hope you have alternate plans to spend with other people, and have some fun.

Anne, you bought a cabinet? Just WHERE did you think you weree going to put it in that little studio?? lol! No, never have too much stuff... It's that your room is too small. It really is! image

My mom has done something to her back, and it flares up at the most inopportune moments, so she has decided to not have her annual Christmas party with all the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Honestly, it makes sense. It's been too much work for her for the last several years. She's opting for short visits with individual families. Of course, there is that one granddaughter who after hearing this, said, "well, we could just pop by on the same day as some of the others!" image   Seriously? I have to wonder about that girl. Girl... Jeepers, she's 31. How'd these kids get so old?

Baking, baking, baking, running to the post, picking up Dennis, baking, baking, cleaning, (not sure where my clean house went?), and then some more baking. I need to figure out what all I'm doing for the church bake sale this weekend. I think I'd better start some of those buckeyes while I'm at it... 92 dozen don't make themselves, and I have to have some earlier for parties, gift bags, etc.

i need to to get to work on an ornament for a swap while I'm at it. Supposed to be to her by the 20th, and I'm still not clear how I'm doing it. I have a tiny tree that will go by the 'door', but the rest of it?

Hope everyone's Wednesday is going fabulous! At least I think it's Wednesday.

Di, I've steadily reduced by full house decorating from 12 trees up to 5 yrs ago--down to 8, then 6, then 3, then 1 last year.  I brought up 3 skinny artificial pines in layers heights, pre-strung and put them in the living room.  They look nice in front of the big bay, and Yes, it does feel warm and cozy, even if it's just me here.

Anne, if I moved some of the cabinets and extra things that are meant to be organizational tools OUT of my room, I might not think it was so small either!  Totally understand.  I'm never sick of hearing about your reorganization--makes me feel like I might get there someday too.

Well, I could look it up, but asking is easier right now--what the heck are buckeyes (besides football) and what do you need 92 dozen for?  That's over a thousand!  I'd get too distracted counting, stacking and sorting!

Back from BSF and ready to finish up 50 little tags.  The request was for gold trim and that changed yesterday to "silver, maybe".  The gold ribbon then obviously needed to change too.  But not silver for the sentiment, well, maybe jute for the ribbon and brown for the stamp and then well, let's see what it looks like before the edges are done.

later, gals!  oh, I'm jealous about your ornament swap--I was afraid we weren't up for it here....but next year for sure!  OK?  Is 12 months good notice?  When you get them all back post a picture, will ya'?

Chris, I got your message - thanks. As for organization, maybe I'll get there, too, someday. ;)

took my mother shopping today, nearly did me in…she wanted to drive up to Salem NH, no tax…seriously mother??? so dutiful daughter drove down picked her up and drove her all over creation up in NH for her christmas shopping….amazed se came back alive, there were moments were I was doubtful we both would be going back!! LOL she was pushing my buttons big time, and had such an attitude…..of course, she didn't wear her hearing aids, they were bothering her, and she has an appointment tomorrow…..so she kept saying ,you know I can't hear you….alllllllll day……..didn't get home till after 9p,but she was happy, I guess that is all that counts….

off to bed….get to sleep in and I want to take full advantage of it…..have a great night everyone!

Tobey, that's so funny!  Glad you got to spend the time (frustrating as it might have been) doing something for/with her!  But, why NH and how far away is that?  In my mind I'm only hearing that you went to another state to shop!

BRRRR, it's cold down here and I have ice on the driveway (which is steep anyway) and there's no sunshine to melt it off!

Stay warm, everyone!

From my mother, Salem NH is about a half hour...., however, it takes me roughly an hour to get to her.....the amount of tax she saved did not equal the amount of gas my truck used.....not even close! Not to mention all the extra travel time....LOL but that's my mother for you! She justified it by saying she was happy she didn't have to pay tax....oh well...

Have some cards I need to make to send out, and Santa comes in by lobster boat today! And, I get a hand made candy cane at Tucks, they are the best!!!!!

Ohh, Tobey! Did you at least get to use her car once you got her? My mom will have me drive, but recognizes that her vehicle gets better gas mileage, so we use hers. It doesn't sound as though that's what happened! You're such a dutiful daughter - I hope she appreciates you!! And you HAD to mention Tucks, didn't you!! LOL

I think Chris asked what buckeyes are? I have no idea why they are called that, but they are tiny peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate. I guess they look like eyeballs, when it comes down to it! Everyone loves them, except for the person making them. I can eat one. No more. It's a little goofy, but I like chocolate, I like peanut butter, I like small Reese's cups (tiny ones, in ice cream), but I don't like the buckeyes. Everyone expects them, though, and they go nuts over them.

Bake sale was okay, not great, not bad, but okay. It didn't seem as though people were buying much of anything. We were part of the Senior Citizens group bazaar; they sold cookies by the pound and crafts. The gals who had a booth to sell handmade ornaments as a fund raiser for a little girl going through her 5th (?) surgery to help lengthen her one leg did the best, taking in about $300. They were thinking if they could get $50 to give the family for Christmas, they'd be doing well! They've decided to do one every year, picking out one child whose family really could use some sunshine.

The ornament I picked out is really cute -- they took clear, empty ornament shapes and filled it with some Epsom salts (snow), small black beads (coal), a snip of orange pipe cleaner (nose) and a couple tiny twigs (arms)... instant melted snowman!

A dusting of snow here today, but frigid! I'm hoping the storm passes us by. We're in a funny little pocket that gets different weather than the area surrounding us at times. Anyway, it's central NY... you never know! I'm staying home and doing some shopping online - some housekeeping, laundry, maybe some more baking (for us this time!), and hoping to get to a crafty thing or two.

We were waiting to see the storm hit last night, as I had to run out with CR last night and buy some new pants. He keeps tearing huge holes in them! Couldn't be the fact that he's been wearing the same pants for about a year or more. lol -- he hadn't changed sizes, so he didn't think to say anything. Thank goodness the ice didn't show up! We're still on the outlook for it.

I hope anyone who did get hit is staying warm and safe!!

Been busy here. Last week saw the podiatrist about my right foot issues. Said the Baxter nerve was inflamed,so I have stretches for my flat feet and one tendon that's tight. Aspartame application several times a day. Ice after work and I have to get gel he'll inserts yet to help with some of the pounding. If it doesn't help, we go to the next level of treatment in a month. I'm working hard to try and follow his orders and it seems to be helping.

Last craft show was ok. Snow storm didn't help Friday night sales, I aold 21 pot scrubbers. Saturday I hit the 100 pot scrubber mark, plus about 150 in jewelry sales. Not as good as the 500.00 I did several years ago, but I'll take it.

Pretty much done with Christmas shopping. Just have to wrap and make fudge yet. Turned in my toy donation last week so that's out of the way.

There have been a lot of friends loosing loved ones in the past couple of week. Been spending time talking with one friend who lost his spouse after a two year illness. He's not lived alone since his twenties. It's fun to answer his questions about house keeping.

Have to take the Subaru in for its first check up Wednesday afternoon.

Hoping when I wake up tomorrow I can scrap and work on my challenges for the month.

Was scary walking out of work this morning with the ice. I finally hit the area they had salted and was able to get to the car. Really didn't want to fall.

Well time to get ready for work.

Are you enjoying the new car, Cass? And nice sales, even though not as good as the past!

Di, it sounds like you've been productive - very productive! What a lovely tradition about the ornament sale, and I love the melted snowman idea! LOL!

Tobey, I will have to try a handmade candy cane from Tuck's over New Year's. ;) And good for you on shopping with your mother! ;)

It's been busier than ever here - not too many deadlines at home, just lots of cleaning and holiday prep - I am now feeling the shortened season between the late Thanksgiving and Christmas! Lots of deadlines for church activities and work, so I just try to focus on what's in front of me and keep lists. I have some time off coming up at the end of the month and in January (well, plans for time off - I have to request it soon). That will be nice before jumping into the busy winter-spring season and summer reading workshops and prep.

Tobey, seriously? Salem? Sounds like my mother....Liz had to drive down to pick her up and take her to Solomon Pond Mall..they asked me to come too, but I had Scouts. Thank goodness. SPeaking of scouts. We sold 125 trees on Saturday and 58 on SUnday. Hopefully one more week and that will be it. I am really feeling my age, dragging those trees around, lifting them on top of cars..
Anne, exactly WHAT is organization? Cause I need a hefty dose of that!
Cass, get YakTrax for your shoes. We don't want you to fall!
Di, I like the buckeyes but can't eat a bunch either...and no way would I make that many. That's more than last year, isn't it?
Is Vietnam warm this time of year?
I am so tired that I might fall asleep right here, after I take more than a few TUMS..at this point I would gladly trade my job with any of you...
